“Se llora y se sigue” Virginia Zoli | Limited ed. print 1 of 7
Project statement:
An itinerary that begins from the capital and heads towards the south of the country, in the Oaxaca region. Living and seeing Mexico from the perspective of the road is an internal journey and a dialogue with this land made of aridity, expanses of cacti and green mountains, but also of new and ancient stories. I crossed part of the country aboard cars and collectives, sharing kilometers and hours of walking with the local people, while outside the most diverse landscapes alternated: volcanoes, reserves, endless beaches, ghost towns, sanctuaries. Seeing Mexico during the months of Dìa de Muertos does not only mean celebrating together or witnessing the immense parades in "disfraz", but also learning to approach an idea of death that permeates without taboos in conversations and intimate stories, as well as in people's homes, next to the photographs, the Pan de muertos and the mezcals that flow down the throat while toasting those who are no longer here. In a time that seems to be suspended and where the only thing that matters is the vivid and attentive memory of people's stories and lives.
